‘I wasn’t happy with Chelsea – I made decision on transfer exit after…..SEE MORE..
Cesare Casadei is banking on a bright future at Chelsea now that he’s teamed up once more with Enzo Maresca.
The Italy Under-21 international caught the eye during his spell at Leicester City in the first half of last season. He played under his compatriot in the early stages of the campaign and played a prominent role in the Foxes’ early charge for promotion.
However, he barely got a look-in under Mauricio Pochettino following his January recall to Stamford Bridge, stunting his progress for six months. It left the player feeling marooned after losing that momentum, but his tune quickly changed after a familiar face in Maresca convinced him to stick with the Blues.
Speaking to BBC Sport (via football.london), Casadei said: “To be honest at the start of this season I was thinking about what was the best solution for me. I think last season was quite difficult, especially the last six months, because I didn’t play a lot. I was not really happy, because everyone wants game time.
The 21-year-old’s dream move to Chelsea hasn’t quite hit the heights he’d hoped for, clocking a single appearance for his club this season. Casadei played all of Chelsea’s 5-0 thrashing of Barrow in the Carabao Cup last month, but the closest he’s come to a first-team field apart from that is being an unused substitute in two of their six Premier League clashes.
“But from the moment I spoke to the manager I was 100% sure that the decision to stay was best for me to improve and for my career. I didn’t want to go permanently. There were some possible loans. But I have always wanted to play for Chelsea. We are one of the biggest teams in the world so I could not be more proud to play for Chelsea.”
