Nolan Hickman Scores 19, Leads Gonzaga to Big Win Over Warner Pacific in Exhibition

In a preseason exhibition matchup, Gonzaga Bulldogs showcased their offensive prowess and depth, rolling to a decisive victory over Warner Pacific with a final score of 114-66. Nolan Hickman led the charge for Gonzaga, posting an impressive 19 points and demonstrating his readiness to step into a significant role for the Zags this season. The game, which took place on Tuesday night, was marked by explosive runs that allowed Gonzaga to pull away early and cruise to a comfortable win.

Hickman’s standout performance not only displayed his scoring ability but also highlighted his development as a playmaker. He was efficient from the field and added a couple of assists, showing poise in leading Gonzaga’s high-paced offense. The sophomore guard is anticipated to be a key player for the Bulldogs this season, especially as Gonzaga adjusts to new faces and emerging leaders following departures from last year’s squad.

Gonzaga’s dominance started early, with a powerful opening burst that immediately put Warner Pacific on their heels. The Bulldogs built a double-digit lead within the first few minutes, utilizing Hickman’s shooting touch, combined with an inside presence that proved difficult for Warner Pacific to counter. Gonzaga’s frontcourt, led by Anton Watson and Ben Gregg, controlled the paint, outmatching Warner Pacific’s smaller lineup on both ends of the court. Watson chipped in 13 points and showed off his defensive skills, while Gregg added 11 points and grabbed multiple rebounds, anchoring Gonzaga’s presence in the paint.

One of the defining features of the game was Gonzaga’s ability to go on prolonged scoring runs, outscoring Warner Pacific by large margins in several stretches. Their defense was particularly active, generating turnovers and leading to fast-break points, allowing the Zags to break open the game in both halves. Warner Pacific, though clearly overmatched, fought hard and showed flashes of offense, but they ultimately couldn’t keep up with the Bulldogs’ pace and size.

Head coach Mark Few expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance, noting that the exhibition provided a valuable opportunity to work on execution and cohesion. Few praised Hickman for his leadership on the floor, adding that Hickman’s role will be crucial as the season progresses. “Nolan is showing us a lot out there. His confidence has grown, and he’s becoming a true leader,” Few said after the game.

The exhibition victory over Warner Pacific serves as a positive indication for Gonzaga as they gear up for the regular season, with aspirations to once again contend on the national stage. Gonzaga’s depth and athleticism were on full display, suggesting that the team has the pieces to make another deep postseason run. With Hickman and the returning core stepping up, the Bulldogs look poised to remain one of the most formidable teams in college basketball.
