NEWS FLASH: A highly anticipated documentary series about MLB legend Roberto Clemente will be released on Netflix.

One of the first Latin American baseball stars in the United States, Roberto Clemente was born in Carolina, Puerto Rico, on August 18, 1934, and passed away in San Juan on December 31, 1972. He was a professional baseball player and an idol in his home Puerto Rico (see also Sidebar: Latin Americans in Major League Baseball).

In 1954, Clemente got his first professional deal with the Brooklyn Dodgers. Despite receiving a bonus of $10,000, which was quite large for the time, he was demoted to the minor levels for the 1954 season.
