Junior Firpo has acknowledged that Leeds United’s wait for his injury comeback is almost over.

Daiel Farken, who was hired back in July, has been in charge at Elland Road for the entire time that Firpo has been out.

The 27-year-old has been dealing with a knee ailment for more than two months, but he might return to the team after the international break.

Leeds did not bring in a dedicated left-back in the summer, therefore Firpo will have another opportunity to fill that role.

Since moving to Leeds from Barcelona in 2021, Firpo has battled with his form and fitness, but when he inevitably makes a comeback, he will have one last chance to atone

According to Fabrizio Romano, Firpo was supposed to depart Leeds in the summer but decided to stay due to a mixture of his injury and lack of interest.

To be fair to him, he is one of just a few members of the first team squad from the previous season who hasn’t abandoned the team, and for that he deserves respect.

That will only get him so far, therefore Firpo needs to start putting in some reliable performances on the pitch to justify Leeds’ £12 million acquisition of him from Barcelona.

In writing,

On paper, Firpo should be too good for the Championship but his performances at Leeds have shown little evidence to suggest that will be the case.

Firpo will not have as much work defensively to do in the second tier and given his strengths lay in going forward, that should benefit him.

This is without a doubt Firpo’s last chance to show his talent at Leeds and if he hasn’t done it by January then it will be time to replace him.
