Ollie Watkins is reportedly ‘on the verge of signing a new five year contract’ at Aston Villa until 2028.

The England striker’s existing deal runs until 2025 and if all goes to plan the announcement could be made soon, The Athletic reports.

Watkins has made a strong start to the season for Villa, who sit fifth in the Premier League table, after scoring seven goals in 12 games.

Despite not scoring in any of his first five matches, the 27-year-old has scored four in his last two, including a hat-trick on the weekend against Brighton.

This comes after Gareth Southgate recently added Watkins to his England squad for the upcoming October international break.

Watkins joined Jarrod Bowen in earning a call-up, but there was no such luck for Raheem Sterling or the in-form James Ward-Prowse.

The 27-year-old joined Villa from Brentford in 2020 for £28million and has scored 50 goals in 127 appearances for the club. Manager Unai Emery recently told reporters he was confident Watkins will remain at rhe club before his England

He said: ‘Ollie shows his commitment with his work. He is very happy here, has improved and today is a consequence of how he works every day.’
