The Cowboys’ offensive line, once the gold standard of the league.
As the 2025 NFL Draft approaches, excitement is mounting in Dallas. After a rollercoaster 2024 season that ended in disappointment, the Cowboys are laser-focused on addressing their two biggest roster weaknesses: the offensive line and running back. According to one top NFL Draft expert, Dallas is poised to fill both needs in this year’s draft, setting the stage for a major comeback.
The Cowboys’ offensive line, once the gold standard of the league, has declined in recent years due to injuries, retirements, and inconsistent play. Although All-Pro guard Zack Martin continues to anchor the unit, age and attrition have left glaring holes, particularly at left tackle and center. Protecting quarterback Dak Prescott remains a top priority for head coach Mike McCarthy and the front office.
NFL Draft analyst Jordan Reid of ESPN predicts that Dallas will target an elite offensive lineman with their first-round pick. In his latest mock draft, Reid has the Cowboys selecting Amarius Mims, the powerful offensive tackle from Georgia. Mims, known for his incredible size (6-foot-7, 340 pounds) and nimble footwork, would immediately upgrade the protection for Prescott and bolster the Cowboys’ run game. Reid emphasized that Mims’ ability to dominate in pass protection and open wide running lanes fits exactly what Dallas needs to revive its offense.
Beyond the offensive line, the Cowboys’ backfield is another area of concern. After parting ways with veteran Tony Pollard in free agency, Dallas is left with a committee of unproven running backs. With the offense traditionally leaning heavily on a strong ground game, finding a dynamic and reliable ball-carrier is critical.
