‘I’M NOT SURE HE PUT THE GRAFT IN,’ SAYS ASTON VILLA SURPER STAR FOR SIGNING’S
Former Premier League player Danny Murphy has reservations about Aston Villa’s acquisition of Youri Tielemans.
Aston Villa signed Youri Tielemans on a free transfer from Leicester City during the summer window, so it appears to be a fine piece of business.
Murphy, speaking on FIVE, is unsure whether the 26-year-old covers enough ground on the pitch.
What did Danny Murphy have to say about Youri Tielemans?
Murphy stated of Villa’s signing of Tielemans, “I’m not sure on Tielemans, you know.” He’s quite good, but I’m not convinced he puts in the effort.”
Tielemans has played in all four of Villa’s Premier League games so far this season but is yet to start a match in the top flight for his new club.
The midfielder was a key player for Leicester last term, making just over 30 league appearances.
Unai Emery was able to sign him after the Foxes were relegated to the Championship and his contract expired.
Aston Villa could benefit from the addition of Youri Tielemans.
While Tielemans is not the type of midfielder who would cover the entire pitch and win numerous tackles every game, he still has a lot to give this Villa team
The Belgium international is clearly a technically gifted footballer who excels at passing the ball.
“That slide pass that sometimes gets cut out doesn’t with Tielemans because he is so crisp with his passing,” Emile Heskey, a former Villa striker, told Goal in 2021. “He would fit into any team.”
It is now up to Emery to put that to use. If he does not, the Spaniard’s decision to bring him in must be questioned.
Following the international break, Villa host Crystal Palace, with Tielemans looking to make his first league start in claret and blue.
