Jon Morosi apologizes for misleading people about Ohtani’s arrival in Toronto with false information.
MLB Network’s Jon Morosi has apologized for bringing “inaccurate information” about Shohei Ohtani’s travel schedule. The rumors about Ohtani possibly signing with the Blue Jays began when it was reported that he was on his way to Toronto. Still unsigned as of late Friday night, though, is Ohtani.
Just after 11 p.m. ET, Morosi apologized on Twitter for the error and for any disappointment it may have caused baseball fans. In addition to stating that Ohtani was headed to Toronto at around 4 p.m. ET, the initial tweet made it clear that he had not yet signed with an MLB team. The tweet is still visible on Morosi’s Twitter page in spite of the correction.
Ohtani’s supposed trip to Toronto was denied by other reliable sources, such as Bob Nightengale of USA Today and Jon Heyman of the New York Post. The episode brings to light the difficulties and unknowns associated with signing free agents as well as the erratic nature of breaking news in the sports world.
