Mike Brown is the new coach of wide receivers.

Bend, Indiana’s South Bend Notre Dame University Mike Brown has been appointed as the wide receivers coach by Marcus Freeman, the head coach of the Dick Corbett football team. With immediate effect, Brown will take on the role of coach, working closely with the Irish wideout group as they get ready for the 2023 Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl.

For the 2023 football season, Brown most recently served as the University of Wisconsin’s associate head coach and wide receivers coach. He left the University of Cincinnati, where he was the wide receivers coach (2019–22) and passing game coordinator (2022), to join head coach Luke Fickell at Wisconsin.

After signing a free-agent contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Brown, a two-time All-American as a wide receiver at Liberty, played three seasons in the National Football League.

Brown was instrumental in the Cincinnati offense’s growth as the Bearcats won their first-ever 13-0 record and made it to the College Football Playoffs in 2021. Alec Pierce, who led the team with 52 receptions for 884 yards and eight touchdowns, was an All-AAC Second Team selection with whom he worked. During the 2021 season, the wide receiver group assisted Cincinnati in setting school records for touchdowns (70) and points scored (516).

While at Cincinnati, Brown assisted in the development of NFL receivers Tyler Scott (Chicago Bears), Tre Tucker (Las Vegas Raiders), and Pierce (Indianapolis Colts). In 2023, Brown helped Wisconsin’s Will Pauling grow into a player who was named to the third team of the Big Ten after he caught 66 passes for 694 yards and four touchdowns. In 2022, Pauling had 12 catches for 122 yards.

At Michigan, Brown began his coaching career in 2016 as an assistant to the running backs and offensive analyst. 2017 saw him relocate to Delaware, where he was employed by head coach Danny Rocco—Brown’s former Liberty teammate. In 2022, On3 named Brown as one of the “rising-star assistants you need to know.” Brown moved back to his alma mater in 2018 to coach running backs. In 2020, he also participated in the Cincinnati Bengals’ Bill Walsh NFL Minority Coaching Fellowship.
