Saints’ Victory Formation Play vs. Falcons Was Modified, According to Jameis Winston
After the New Orleans Saints defeated the Atlanta Falcons 48–17 in Week 18, Atlanta Falcons coach Arthur Smith accosted Dennis Allen at middle, looking like a bitter loser. Smith objected to the Saints entering victory formation after they scored a touchdown in the last few minutes of the game. But instead of Jameis Winston, the quarterback, taking a knee to extend the play, Jamaal Williams of New Orleans received the ball and scored a touchdown.
In light of that, Smith’s resentment of Smith appeared to be well-founded. When in a formation that signals to the defense that the offensive is giving up a down, don’t pretend to kneel; instead, take a knee or run the ball.
Post-game interviews provided clarification on the matter, though. Smith refrained from requesting a fake from victory formation. The guys wanted Williams to score his first touchdown of the year, but Winston modified the call.
“I apologized to Allen because ‘Victory’ was the title of the play. However, I also told D.A. that it was a team decision, Winston said in remarks made to reporters, including Garland Gillen of WVUE. “I believe that after asking the boys, ‘What do you want to do?’ when we had a good team morale We are aware of Jamaal’s significance to this team. And I recognized things from D.A.’s point of view.” Winston went on, “D.A. didn’t condone that at all.
Given that he was actively involved in the decision to alter the play, Winston undoubtedly has the greatest viewpoint on the subject. However, in an interview with reporters, Falcons defensive end Calais Campbell corroborated his story. Perhaps this play will come up during the Saints and Falcons game the following season. Sportspeople adore being motivated. However, now that it has been clarified and Williams is well-liked by all in the league, there might not be a problem.
