Falcons players talk about Arthur Smith’s last meeting and the 2023 season’s conclusion.

On Monday, after the 2023 season ended and Arthur Smith was fired, Falcons players cleared out their lockers.

After learning the previous evening that the Falcons had parted ways with their head coach of three seasons, Smith spoke to the players in a morning meeting. Smith talked about the significance of the group to him while he lived in Atlanta.

Falcons tight end Jonnu Smith said, “He showed his appreciation and love for us all (in the team meeting).” “Having been with him for the majority of my NFL career, I found the most significance in hearing him tell me, ‘Whenever you need me, man, my number will never change.'” He’s always been that way, even on our first day together.

Veteran Calais Campbell wasn’t shocked to hear the news late at night, despite his hopes that it wouldn’t come to that. However, he was surprised, like other players. Nevertheless, as he concluded his 16th season in the NFL, Campbell recognized the nature of the industry.

Although the defensive lineman expressed uncertainty about playing in a 17th season, Campbell said he felt physically prepared to continue.

Campbell’s thoughts were echoed by cornerback Jeff Okudah, whose future in Atlanta is also in doubt because of an expiring contract.

We were all dedicated to achieving the objectives we set at the start of the year,” Okudah stated. “So when things don’t go as planned, obviously head coach takes accountability, but I think every single player on the roster (takes) accountability as well because we all play a part in this.”

After emptying their lockers, Falcons players withdraw into the off-season or, in the case of offensive lineman Kaleb McGary, return toMercedes-Benz Stadium Atlanta | IBM their “hobbit hole” in the woods, where they believe they belong. The Falcons will then have to wait and see what happens next.
