The Jacksonville Jaguars have fired Bernie Parmalee, their running backs coach, making nine dismissals in all.

Bernie Parmalee, the running backs coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars, is one of nine assistants that head coach Doug Pederson has let go.

A day after Pederson fired defensive coordinator Mike Caldwell and seven of his assistants on that side of the ball, Parmalee’s departure was made public on Tuesday.

Additionally, Todd Washington, the assistant offensive line coach, had his contract expire, and Pederson declined to extend it.

Following the greatest late-season collapse in franchise history, the changes were made. In late November, the Jaguars were 8-3 and leading the AFC South. However, they lost five of their final six games and were eliminated from the playoffs.

Jacksonville lost 28–20 to Tennessee in what had turned into a win-and-in game to end the season. Derrick Henry ran for a season-high 153 yards in that game, and the other five losses in December and January were largely the result of poor defense.

In those defeats, Caldwell’s team gave up 29.2 points and 146.8 rushing yards per game.

Pederson chose not to make many offensive plays, seemingly attributing the majority of the problems to injuries sustained by quarterback Trevor Lawrence, receivers Christian Kirk and Zay Jones, and a shifting offensive line.

However, Parmalee’s position group struggled all season. Despite having Travis Etienne available for every game for the full 17 games, Jacksonville’s rushing attack was only 24th in the NFL. Etienne ran for 1,008 yards in the end and scored 11 touchdowns. Third-round draft selection Tank Bigsby, the backup, had a nondescript rookie season.
