JJ Redick Slams Celtics Broadcast Following Allegation of “Curse”
Broadcaster Drew Carter claimed that former NBA player JJ Redick “cursed” Derrick White during the Boston Celtics vs. Toronto Raptors game on January 15. On January 5, White made an appearance on Redick’s podcast, “The Old Man & the Three,” which sparked the alleged curse.
Derrick White shot 32.1% from three-point range and 34.5% from the field between January 5 and the day before the Celtics faced the Raptors on January 15, according to NBA.com. According to Basketball-Reference, he shot 47.4% from the field and 41% from three during the season. Those figures are a sharp contrast.
Carter called it a curse and linked White’s difficulties to his appearance on White’s podcast during the Raptors-Celtics game. In support of his argument, he mentioned that White experienced a comparable decline soon after participating in the same podcast in December 2022. According to NBA.com, White shot 40.9% from the field and 23.7% from three between December 9, 2022, and January 11, 2023.
Redick claimed to have heard what Carter said, even though all of the information was just coincidental. Redick responded to Carter’s claim that he “cursed” White with a tweet shortly afterward, using his X account.
