Goalie Brandon Bussi has been assigned to Providence by the Boston Bruins, according to a statement made by general manager Don Sweeney today, January 16.

The 25-year-old Bussi has made 20 appearances for Providence this season, going 10-6-3 overall with a 2.94 goals against average and a.901 save percentage. With an overall record of 35-13-7, the 6-foot-4, 218-pound goalie has played in 57 AHL games with Providence in his career. In 2022, Boston signed the native of Sound Beach, New York as a free agent.

The Boston Bruins are the ideal NHL team to debate fatalism vs. determinism for eternity. As they did the previous year, they are once again in the lead in the Atlantic Division and Eastern Conference. Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak are two of the league’s best players, same as they were the year before. With two goalies used equally, the goaltending is excellent. They both have above-average special teams and rank in the top five in terms of goals allowed per game. Looks exactly the same as it did the year we were here.

We all know how last year ended, of course. After seven games against the Panthers in the first round, they needed to get home, and a record points haul combined with $2.40 would have made that possible. The discrepancy between their season-to-expected goal total and the considerably higher number of goals they actually scored appeared to be a major indicator that the Bruins weren’t as good as they seemed. Or they just suffered two overtime losses to a Panthers team that performed better than their record during the regular season. You wouldn’t be blamed for believing that the cycle was repeating itself this year, whatever your preference.
