College Football Offers Kirby Smart and Georgia Plenty of Opportunities

Just one month into the new year, there have been significant shifts in college football. Jim Harbaugh is currently the head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers after legendary head coach Nick Saban formally announced his retirement. The next in line to take over as head coach was Kalen DeBoer of Washington. In 2024, the sport will undoubtedly look and feel a little different, but one program probably won’t mind.

In 2023, Kirby Smart’s football team narrowly missed out on making it to the college football playoffs and capturing a third consecutive national championship. Because of Alabama and Nick Saban, the Bulldogs’ illustrious winning streak and unchallenged reign over college football were momentarily interrupted. If you’ve heard that one before, stop me. But the Bulldogs have plenty of opportunities ahead of them now that Harbaugh and Saban, along with the Alabama dynasty that football fans have grown to know over the past ten or more years, are no longer involved.

Kirby Smart is now easily ranked as the top college football coach when considering the top ten coaches in the sport. However, it would be difficult to choose a runner-up to the two-time national champion. Perhaps it’s Dabo Swinney, but Clemson seems to be getting worse every day. Alternatively, how about Brian Kelly? has undoubtedly achieved great success, but perhaps not enough to be regarded as the second-best coach in the history of the game.

Ryan Day, how about it? Despite several college football appearances and being one of the top teams every year, there are still some unanswered questions. It’s coach Smart and a respectable drop off to the coach directly behind him, that’s the main point.
