Andy Reid says he has always respected the 49ers. Originally airing on NBC Sports Bay Area, quarterback Brock Purdy
Although Chiefs coach Andy Reid is planning to slow down 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy in Super Bowl LVIII, the 24-year-old quarterback’s admiration for Reid goes back much further.
Speaking with reporters on Thursday, Reid disclosed that his respect for Purdy dates back to the signal-caller’s time at Iowa State University, citing a specific statement made by Cyclones coach Matt Campbell about the 49ers quarterback that jumped out.
Reid said of Purdy, “He’s a heck of a player,” to reporters. It was on one of those Saturday afternoons when I was watching him in college that I clearly recall the head coach saying, ‘This guy has changed our program.
Modifying a program is a major step. And in the National Football League, that’s exactly what he is—doing that. He ran the ball well last week, using both his legs and his arm equally. He’s intelligent, skilled in football, and has an excellent sense of intuition.”
