What was the head coach of Auburn’s team thinking following the Tigers’ convincing victory over their fiercest rival?
Tonight at Neville Arena, the No. 12 Auburn Tigers defeated the No. 16 Alabama Crimson Tide 99-81.
Following the game, what was Bruce Pearl’s reaction as the head coach of Auburn?
Pearl stated, “Alabama has a great team.” “An incredibly difficult pre-training for our coaching staff… That’s what makes them such a formidable offensive unit and a dangerous one.”
Pearl discussed the performance by Jaylin Williams.
“He (Williams) is great with his back to the basket,” Pearl stated. “He and Johni (Broome) can both score over that left hand and right shoulder. They just can; there’s no special scouting report on it. I believe we executed a solid plan to get them in close proximity.”
Pearl also discussed Tre Donaldson’s development this season.
“He recognizes that he’s one of our best players and one of the better players in the league,” Pearl stated. “He needs to be able to deliver if we are to prevail. He has, in my opinion, truly maintained his focus.”
Pearl discussed how Auburn’s defensive effort this evening differed from that of the team’s first meeting.
“I thought we did a better job keeping bodies on bodies,” Pearl stated. “Not getting overwhelmed on the offensive glass, not getting beat to as many 50-50 balls and we did a better job of not turning the ball over.”
Auburn’s next game is on the road in Gainesville, Florida, on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. CT against the Gators. The Auburn Athletics app allows you to stream the Auburn Sports Network broadcast anywhere at any time, while the SEC Network broadcast is available for viewing.
