What is Auburn paying Vontrell King-Williams, the new defensive tackles coach?

Vontrell King-Williams, the recently promoted defensive tackles coach at Auburn, will earn $500,000 annually in a new two-year contract starting in early February, per a copy of his contract that AL.com obtained through a public records request.

Josh Aldridge, the former coach of the linebackers, was moved to coach the edge rushers, and King-Williams was named the defensive tackles coach. The linebackers will be coached by D.J. Durkin, the new defensive coordinator.

In the event King-Williams is fired, the contract includes a full buyout, and if he finds success as a new coach before his Auburn contract expires on January 31, 2026, there is a mitigation clause.

King-Williams will owe Auburn one year’s salary if he leaves before the end of the 2024 season in order to take a position elsewhere before his contract expires. If he leaves before the 2025 season is over, he will be obligated to pay $125,000.
