Xavien Howard is a free agent; should he sign with Dallas or Houston?
According to reports, veteran cornerback Xavien Howard is leaving the Miami Dolphins and will be cut after June 1. The 30-year-old Howard is coming off a foot injury that ended his season. In 13 games, he registered only one interception, 12 passes defensed, and 45 total tackles, 36 of which were solo. In addition, he recorded one quarterback hit and one tackle for loss.
Given that they have some defensive line decisions to make in free agency, the Dallas Cowboys may be interested. If the Cowboys don’t decide they want to keep cornerback Stephon Gilmore, who was traded from Indianapolis for a fifth-round pick last offseason, he will be available on the free market.
According to Spotrac, Gilmore is expected to be worth $11.165 million after a year. Gilmore played in all 17 of the Cowboys’ regular-season games as well as their postseason loss to the Green Bay Packers in the previous campaign.
Along with two forced fumbles, 73 total tackles in the regular season and postseason, and two interceptions, the five-time Pro Bowler had a great season last year.
The four-time Pro Bowler will be cut by the Dolphins, saving them $23 million. Howard intercepted ten passes in 2020, placing third in the Defensive Player of the Year voting.
