Without Embiid, Harris and Maxey help the Sixers defeat Doncic’s Mavs and win again.
With 28 points from Tobias Harris and 24 from Tyrese Maxey, the Philadelphia 76ers defeated the Dallas Mavericks 120-116 on Sunday.
After the third quarter’s four minutes, Kelly Oubre Jr. scored 19 of his 21 points, helping the Sixers win two straight games—their second winning streak in the fourteen games that Joel Embiid has missed. The current MVP’s recovery from surgery on his left knee is not set in stone.
For his third straight triple-double, Luka Doncic finished with 38 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists. However, the star player from Slovenia also committed seven of the Mavericks’ 17 turnovers.
Dallas fell for the fourth time in five games following a seven-game winning streak—its longest of the season—after being outscored 25–13 in points off turnovers.
Derrick Jones Jr. finished with 21 points, while Kyrie Irving scored 28. However, Tim Hardaway Jr. and P.J. Washington Jr. combined to shoot 4 of 18 from the field for Dallas, including 1 of 13 from 3-point range.
In an attempt to hold onto their postseason standings in the absence of Embiid, Philadelphia got a scare in the third quarter when Maxey took a hard fall and was out for a few minutes.
Maxey left the court by himself and did not return for the remainder of the quarter. He came back to the game to begin the fourth quarter, going 8 of 15 from the field and converting all seven of his free throw attempts, including five in the final frame.
