Moscow: A burning ruin of a large music hall in a Moscow suburb, the attack claimed the lives of at least 133 people, according to Russian President Vladimir Putin, who announced on Saturday that 11 persons had been arrested.
Putin described the incident as “a bloody, barbaric terrorist act” and announced that all four of the suspects had been brought into custody in a speech to the country. He alleged that they had attempted to enter Ukraine, where he said there was an attempt to open a “window” to allow them to go.
Ukraine has categorically denied being involved in the assault. In addition to declaring March 24 a day of national mourning, Putin announced on Saturday that more security measures had been put in place across the nation
Friday’s attack was attributed to the Afghanistan branch of the Islamic State group in a social media statement shared on connected networks. The Associated Press was informed by a U.S. intelligence official that the group’s involvement in the attack had been verified by American agencies.
The most deadly incident to strike Russia in years occurred only days after Putin solidified his hold on power with a carefully planned election victory and as the nation’s conflict with Ukraine entered its third year.
Not long after the attack, a few legislators from Russia blamed Ukraine. However, Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s adviser, Mykhailo Podolyak, denied any involvement.
He wrote, “Ukraine has never resorted to the use of terrorist methods,” on the previous Twitter platform, X. “Everything in this war will be decided only on the battlefield.”
The foreign ministry of Ukraine further rejected any engagement on the part of the nation and charged Moscow with trying to inflame passions for its war campaign.
“We view these accusations as a deliberate provocation by the Kremlin to inflame anti-Ukrainian sentiment in Russian society, facilitate the further mobilization of Russian citizens to take part in the illegal aggression against our nation, and damage Ukraine’s reputation abroad.
