As of right now, Ames Ferentz is joining the family company.
Ferentz, who made his retirement known in February, is utilizing his ten-year playing career to pursue a coaching position. Jordan Raanan of ESPN reports that the New York Giants have hired him as an assistant offensive line coach.
The 34-year-old won Super Bowl LIII while playing for New England for seven seasons. Even though he was cut numerous times, former Patriots head coach Bill Belichick had a soft spot for him and frequently welcomed the small center back for additional tours of duty.Ferentz’s decision to change careers is hardly shocking. In his last season with the squad, James functioned as a de facto coach for the Patriots under his father Kirk Ferentz, who has been Iowa’s head coach since 1999. His teammates also thought highly of him, and Mac Jones even gave him a shoutout when he announced his retirement. After playing for the Giants under head coach Brian Daboll, assistant special teams coordinator Cam Achord, and his new boss, offensive line coach Carmen Bricillo, in New England, Ferentz will be joining a staff with which he is somewhat familiar.
