Jackson Powers-Johnson expressed his opinions about playing for the Miami Dolphins candidly at the NFL Combine. The centre followed in his father’s footsteps and became a childhood Dolphins fan even though he was raised in Utah. Following a stellar collegiate career at the University of Oregon, he may be able to fulfil his ambition of playing for Miami. With a smirk on his face, Powers-Johnson disclosed that he had had an official meeting with the Dolphins at the Combine. The Oregon standout expressed how honoured he would be to play for the youthful head coach, Mike McDaniel, which made the idea of playing for him thrilling.
Even now, months after the initial wave of free agency began, some analysts believe the Dolphins will select a centre with their No. 21 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. However, rumours that Powers-Johnson will join the South Florida team have mostly died down. Aaron Brewer, one of the best centres available, was signed by the Dolphins in free agency. Connor Williams, the starting centre for the Dolphins in 2023, is still a free agent. After playing a variety of offensive line positions for the Tennessee Titans for four seasons, Brewer was requested to go from guard to centre in 2023. For most of the season, Brewer was in charge of keeping rookie quarterback Will Levis safe.
The possibility of drafting Powers-Johnson is not necessarily eliminated by the acquisition of Brewer. The Dolphins need assistance, and both players have experience playing on the inside offensive line. In his most recent mock draft, NFL analyst Bucky Brooks has McDaniel and company using their first-round pick on Powers-Johnson.
It is important to have a strong and stable middle line when considering a smaller quarterback. JPJ is a guy who accomplishes things. I think Miami is a good fit for him because he stonewalls opponents at the moment of attack, Brooks said.
