Todd Boehly, the owner of Chelsea, has endured harsh criticism for the numerous players he has brought to the team who have performed poorly, and

now the American is hurt about a player he let go. Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s 19-year tenure at the team came to an end last summer when Boehly approved the midfielder’s £15 million trade to AC Milan.

And he’s already doing well in Serie A; on Saturday, his team defeated Fiorentina 2-1 with him scoring the game’s first goal. That was his tenth goal of the year, already tying his record for most goals scored in a Chelsea shirt. It was during Maurizio Sarri’s tenure in 2018–19, which was without a doubt the former England international’s finest season at Stamford Bridge. Despite missing his team’s victory over Arsenal in the Europa League final due to injury, he made 40 club appearances. However, after leaving Stamford Bridge, Frank Lampard played the 28-year-old little in the subsequent season before he went on loan to Fulham. He dutifully made a comeback in 2021 and played a significant role in both of the ensuing seasons, but due to injuries, he was never able to secure a permanent spot in the first team.

Despite this, Loftus-Cheek has looked revived in Milan, appearing in 35 games across all competitions. And as the team is presently on pace to finish second in the league, he looks set to add to his goal total with 11 league games remaining. Manager Stefano Pioli has also occasionally used him as a striker. Last month, Milan defeated Slavic Prague in their Europa League last-16 match thanks to goals he scored in both legs. This has created an intriguing quarterfinal matchup with Roma. And following the draw, the Italian manager said that he had been pleasantly impressed by Loftus Cheek’s performance in a more forward role. He admitted, “I’ll be honest, Ruben is more attacking and of higher quality than I had anticipated.”
