SAD NEWS: Treble winner on radar; target eager to move…….see more
The Gers fell short in their pursuit of the Scottish Premier League after falling away during the run-in, which may give Philippe Clement plenty of food for thought as we enter another transfer window, ahead of the Belgian’s first full season in charge.
With a potential return to the Champions League ahead, here is who the Ibrox giants have been looking at ahead of the official opening of the summer window.
Kalvin Phillips: Rangers are thought to be among the clubs interested in a swoop for Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips, who is expected to be allowed to leave on loan in the upcoming season. Celtic are among the potential competition for his signature.
Phillips played a bit-part role as the Citizens won the treble in 2022/23, before spending the second half of last term on loan at West Ham United.
Reuell Walters: Philippe Clement is also interested in versatile defender Reuell Walters, whose deal at Premier League giants Arsenal recently expired. Rangers have been mentioned as one of the clubs monitoring his situation as he seeks a new club in 2024/25.
Thomas Galdames: Reports have claimed that Godoy Cruz defender Thomas Galdames is seeking an early exit from his current deal, which expires in December, amid interest from Rangers. It is believed Galdames is keen to move on now that the summer window is opening as he aims to progress his career in Europe.
Ianis Hagi: Reports emerged in Turkey last month that the club are poised to transfer-list Ianis Hagi, with Philippe Clement set to snub the chance to give the Romanian an opportunity to show his worth. Hagi spent the 2023/24 season on loan at Alaves, where he failed to make a telling impact.
Rangers’ summer business began with Mohamed Diomande’s deal turning permanent following his loan spell from Danish club FC Nordsjaelland, with the Gers having an obligation to buy.
He has since been joined by Brazilian full-back Jefte, who joins from Fluminense having spent the previous year on loan at APOEL in Cyprus.
More recently, Oscar Cortes has extended his loan spell at Ibrox, though he has signed a deal with an obligation to buy next summer, upon which he will sign a four-year contract.
Several Rangers servants have seen their deals expire in the past few days, including experienced duo Borna Barisic and Ryan Jack, who amassed over 400 appearances for the club between them. John Lundstram, Jon McLaughlin and striker Kemar Roofe will also be looking for new clubs in 2024/25.
