Villa fell behind when Jean-Philippe Mateta pushed Pau Torres on the halfway line, before fighting back for Edouard to finish. The away team led for 40 minutes, before Duran held the ball on his chest and headed past Sam Johnstone.

In the seventh minute of stoppage time,Watki Ollie ns was fouled in the penalty area and after a lengthy VAR review, referee Darren England upheld his decision. Luiz sent Johnstone the wrong way before Bailey added a third on the counter-attack.

Villa have started the season well, winning three of their first five matches, losing to Newcastle and Liverpool. They will play the first of six Europa Conference League group stage matches against Legia Warsaw in Poland on Thursday.
