All the latest Leeds United news with the White Devils preparing for their Championship clash with Southampton
Daniel Farke praised the quality of forward Georginio Rutter after he played a part in two goals in the 3-0 Championship victory over Watford at Elland Road last weekend. Second-half goals from Joel Piroe, Sam Byram and Jaidon Anthony sealed three points for Leeds as Rutter put in perhaps his best performance in a United shirt.
Farke said of Rutter: “I think we can be absolutely happy with him, his work ethic. He is great in linking the play. He is still a relatively young lad, it’s important that we were concentrated on scoring the first goal. He had great assists, it was a top-class performance. He deserves all the praise.
Leeds United’s Head of Medicine and Performance Rob Price has provided a detailed insight into Stuart Dallas’ journey since the freak injury which has so far sidelined him for 16 months. The Whites’ promotion hero fractured his femur in a collision with Jack Grealish in the heavy home defeat to Manchester City in April 2022.
Dallas has not featured for the club since, with the Whites suffering relegation and dispensing with three managers in the intervening period. The Northern Ireland international has made the ‘next step’ in his rehabiliation process by rejoining his team-mates in training, although the 32-year-old is not expected to make his competitive comeback anytime soon.
The lack of regular updates on Dallas’ recovery and the nature of the injury has led to unfounded rumours emerging over the player potentially retiring. Price has dismissed these ‘annoying’ suggestions, and provided a fascinating insight into Dallas’ journey since that fateful day.
He told the Official Leeds United Podcast: “I don’t think anyone has dealt with the injury Stu had before. I spoke with Stu earlier today and I said how much do you want me to mention about this, because we’ve been pretty quiet about it.
“We released the basics, and we carried on with the rehab. I think he’s got to this stage now, and we’ve still got to be clear this is still part of his rehabilitation, joining in the training group does not mean he’s available for selection for the squad.
“We’ve still got to build up the volume of training. This is the first time he’s had other players around him, and that’s a different intensity, it’s a different feel, you’ve got different perceptions going on around you, so it’s still a part of the process.”
