No. 12 Oregon improved to 6-1 with Saturday’s straight-set road win at San Diego.

SAN DIEGO, Calif. — The No. 12 Oregon volleyball team swept its way past weekend host San Diego (25-23, 25-19, 25-23) in Saturday’s finale of the USD Invitational. The Ducks were paced by 12 kills each from Mimi Colyer and Noemie Glover and pushed their winning streak to six.

Cristin Cline registered the first double-double of her career with 32 assists and a team-leading 15 digs. Michelle Ohwobete was steady throughout the night with nine kills, 10 digs and two aces. Collectively, the Ducks posted seven total team blocks in the match.

Colyer hit .364 against the Toreros, putting away her 12 kills with 33 errorless swings. Glover finished with a .321 efficiency from the right side. They added nine and five digs, respectively.

How It Happened: In an opening set that featured eight ties and four lead changes, Oregon (6-1) made the decisive move with a three-point push for a 19-17 advantage on a kill by Ohwobete. The two teams traded points for the remainder of the set with the Ducks securing the first with another Ohwobete kill. Libero Daley McClellan gave Oregon set point at 24-22 with an overpass that fell in for a kill.

McClellan added 14 digs and four assists to her match stat line.

The Ducks sprinted out to a 6-1 lead in the second set, a run that featured a pair of kills each for Glover and Ohwobete. The cushion grew to seven—UO up 14-7—after back-to-back aces from Ohowbete from the service line. Colyer ended a mini-run by the home team with a kill and a Ducks’ block on the ensuing rally put Oregon ahead 17-12.

San Diego (2-5) never got closer than four over the final stages of the second. On their third opportunity to take a 2-0 match lead, the Ducks went to Glover who delivered a kill.

It was another quick start for Oregon in the third, going up 5-1 on a solo block by Colby Neal. The Ducks forced a USD timeout with another block and a 9-5 lead. The Toreros steadied and began to chip away, eventually taking a 15-14 lead thanks to a four-point surge. Oregon answered immediately with a quick 3-0 run to regain the advantage for good at 17-15; the team never relinquished the lead.

Oregon led 24-20 but USD saved three match point with the help of two kills from Kennedy Osunsanmi and a Ducks’ attack error. However, Glover unleashed a final strike that the Toreros dug up but led to an out-of-system ball they couldn’t keep in bounds.

Cline and Neal each finished the night with four blocks.

Up Next: The Ducks close out their non-conference schedule with a pair of in-state matches next week, beginning Wednesday at Portland State followed by a home match Sunday against Oregon State.
