A look at the current state of the Thorp Arch treatment room as Leeds United prepare to make the trip to St Mary’s to face in-form Southampton.

Leeds United are back in action on Saturday lunchtime when they take on relegated Southampton in their opening Championship match. Leeds head to the south coast looking to extend their six-match unbeaten run in the league and aim to record a fifth consecutive clean sheet in the process.

They will face a Saints side struggling for form, with Russell Martin’s side having lost their last four games and having the undesirable record of conceding more goals than any other team. in the tournament, something Leeds will want to enjoy. And while Daniel Farke is reluctant to make too many changes from the team that beat Watford 3-0 last weeke

and, he may have another key attacking option he could use.

Ahead of kick-off at 12.30pm on Saturday, below is the current status of Leeds United’s injury and suspension list.

Patrick Bamford suffered a hamstring injury just before the start of the new season, but is now working his way back to fitness and is expected to travel with the team to Southampton.

What Farke said (September 28):
“[He] is training with the team, I think this week is extremely beneficial for him. He will also be with the team on Saturday. The situation has improved much, two weeks back to training. I think he will come with us.

“There is an old rule that normally a player who’s back in training needs as long on the training pitch to be ready with full confidence, full rhythm, to be ready to play the same time like he was out. Patrick is an experienced player, for offensive players sometimes it’s a bit quicker so hopefully he doesn’t need eight weeks to be back in the mix.”

Junior Firpo
Junior Firpo has also been absent for the whole campaign so far and is set to be sidelined until after the October international break.

What Farke said (September 28):
“Junior Firpo is not back in team training so it will also definitely last until the international break.”

Wilfried Gnonto
Italy international Wilfried Gnonto was forced off against Hull City last week with an ankle problem and has undergone surgery that will keep him out until after the international break.

What Farke said (September 28):
“Willy Gnonto had successful surgery so he’s already on his way to doing a lot of rehab work.”

Djed Spence
Tottenham loanee Djed Spence suffered a knee injury in training earlier this month, with the club putting out a statement confirming he would miss up to eight weeks. The club’s head of performance and medicine, Rob Price, went on The Official Leeds United Podcast earlier this week and Spence was one of several players he gave an update on.

What Rob Price said (September 25):
“Djed was really unlucky. Last week he did a challenge in training, slipped and tore the collateral ligament in his knee. 90% of those cases heal pretty well in eight weeks.

“We did a few injections to try to promote healing in that area and we protected it and his recovery based on that.” So it’s been a week now and we’re making very slow progress, but it’s funny. accident. This could have happened to anyone.

“He slipped and slipped while participating in the challenge, someone fell on his leg and pushed it to the point where the ligament couldn’t stand it and broke, but what about him, like all players? ? His attitude of doing what’s right and making sure he’s okay comes first.

“We will develop it over the next few weeks. We hope he is one of the 90% who arrive within eight weeks.

“If he doesn’t, we can do more than that, but you certainly wouldn’t do anything more at this stage when he has a good chance of being back with us in November.”

Stuart Dallas
Stuart Dallas is another player Rob Price has been talking about, after the Northern Irishman returned to first-team training last week as he got back up to speed.

What Rob Price said (September 25):
“I don’t think anyone has ever been injured like Stu. I spoke to Stu earlier today and told him how much you wanted me to mention it to him, because we’ve been pretty quiet about that.

“We’ve cleared the bases and continued the recovery process. I think he’s reached that stage now and we still need to be clear, this is still part of his recovery process , joining the training team does not mean he is ready for selection to the team.” .

“We still need to increase the amount of training. It’s the first time he’s had other players around him, and it’s a different intensity, a different feeling, you have different perceptions of your surroundings, so that’s always part of the process. .
