Dom Matteo says Leeds United have a difference maker in Jaidon Anthony.

Here are this evening’s latest Leeds United headlines on Monday, October 2.

Bournemouth loanee Jaidon Anthony is still awaiting his first Leeds United start, but former Whites skipper Dominic Matteo believes that the winger can be a difference maker. The 23-year-old joined Leeds on the final day of the transfer window, with Luis Sinisterra heading in the opposite direction and joining the Cherries.

Anthony has come off the bench in each of Leeds’ last four matches, opening his goalscoring account when he fired home the final goal last month’s 3-0 win over Hull City at Elland Road. And that was a performance that caught the eye of Matteo, who sees Premier League calibre in the winger.

“Another player that come on, made a difference to the team,” Matteo said on LUTV’s Matchday Live show. He’s got composure. Last year, we didn’t really have composure. I know it isn’t the Premier League, but that was a Premier League goal for me.

“His goal, he just guides it into the corner. A lovely finish. That is a player that knows what he is doing in that position. Like I say, we have options all over the football pitch. We looked a threat in that game.”

Queen Park Rangers boss Gareth Ainsworth says the potential loss of Morgan Fox to injury ahead of his side’s trip to Leeds United on Wednesday evening is ‘difficult’. Fox has been an ever-present in QPR’s defence this season, but limped off five minutes into his side’s 3-1 defeat by Coventry City at the weekend.

That made it four games without a win for Ainsworth’s side, with the injury to the former Sheffield Wednesday and Stoke City left-back top of a laundry list of complaints that the Hoops’ boss had following the Loftus Road defeat. QPR will begin the midweek fixtures sitting 22nd on the Championship table and it looks like they will have to make do without the 30-year-old at Elland Road.

“It was difficult to lose Morgan,” Ainsworth said following Saturday’s match. “He’s been an outstanding performer in defence. But it’s opportunities for other people now.

Jaidon Anthony has lift the lid on his deadline day move to Leeds United and says he knew he’d thrive at Elland Road after experiencing the atmosphere in Bournemouth’s 4-3 defeat last season. The Cherries winger was an unused substitute during the game with Jesse Marsch’s side coming out on top in a thriller on home soil.

he 23-year-old made the move to Leeds as part of Bournemouth’s approach to sign Luis Sinisterra on loan, with Anthony heading to Yorkshire on season-long loan. It was a deal that came through at short notice with the young forward preparing for Bournemouth’s Premier League clash with Brentford.

Speaking to the Official Leeds United podcast he said: “It was a Friday, we’d travelled to Brentford and I’d trained in the morning. There was nothing about a move during the day so I was just preparing for the game as I would.
