McKenna does an excellent job
Former Town boss Mick McCarthy says current manager Kieran McKenna is doing an excellent job at Portman Road.

McCarthy, 64, who managed the Blues from 2012 to 2018, was hugely impressed with McKenna, who took over at Portman Road just over three years after his departure.

“He did an incredible job,” McCarthy told the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast. “From their promotion to seven league titles, it’s remarkable.

“They came back from being 2-0 down at Wolves to win, they were 1-0 down on Saturday against Huddersfield and came back to get a draw. “Plays great football, they fly after him. They have a very good budget in League One, they have in the Championship, but nevertheless, he does the coaching, the management. Outstanding.”

He can’t resist adding a little budget, can he, as if to say I can do it if someone gives me a little money!

Thanks, Mick. I always appreciate what you have done for Town. It’s a new era and it’s time to go even higher.

ten, the important truth is that MM (or/and others in ME) have never had enough decision-making power, budget or authority to do the MANY things that need to be done or need attention and change. changes in and around Portman Road.
Cash flow is tight, business plans are never clear and every year there is more or less a race for survival. BUT we still survived (after a succession of managers of questionable quality) and MM’s abilities and personal qualities are still underrated. No useful benefit will be gained by repeating the past, positivity and dedication embody ITFC today – maybe for a long timeWick. Honestly, that’s a good point to make. Remember Mick saved us from relegation and got us to the play-offs, but had no budget to improve the team and had to rely on loans (of varying quality) to keep them going We’re in the Championship. His goal is “not to lose”, so there’s no exciting football, but I’m sure he would have a much more positive attitude if he had a good budget.
That said, I think McKenna is the better manager.

The utterly thankless task of trying to make Ipswich succeed when financially we are on the brink of failure thanks to Marcus/Mr. Evans/whatever other flattering name you want to give him!

It’s just that he didn’t have McKenna’s budget and yes he probably kept us in the league but oh my god, some terrible football his team produced week in and week out. Even when we played at home against Rotherham, he always preferred to take on opponents rather than attack and who will never forget the wonderful midfield trio of Skuse, Douglas and Hyam!
McKenna certainly had a bigger budget, but he used it thoughtfully and strategically. He’s on a different planet from dear Mick!

Looking back at MM’s time as manager, I would shake his hand and say thank you. I think he did the best he could with the budget given to him. In the end it may not have been attractive football, but we were consistently in the second division (over 4 years in the third division).

The manager has an old-school defensive mentality, but he works hard with limited resources. A nice guy.
I really don’t know where to put KMcK other than the most intelligent, astute, astute, articulate, technically sound and attack-minded manager we’ve ever had. On par with the great BR, but in today’s world, probably even better. We are lucky to support a club that now has it all. 4

He always credited his contribution in saving us from relegation in our first season, but football is never an easy task. I’d also like to add that under Evans, we never had a “player” run the show. Ashton has to take a lot of the credit for the current situation.

Mick McCarthy is a genuine, decent guy who is loved by many.
He did his best for us at a time when we were crushed by the owner’s indifference. I wish him the best.

It’s 2023 McKenna/Ashton & Gamechanger
Back in the day, previous managers/owners tried their best, didn’t always practice, Marcus Evans despite being heavily criticized, sold to forward thinking investors, so many clubs and fans would love owners like OURS!!!!!

Joe Royle, with a smaller budget than MM, still played attractive football and achieved some success. There was no apology for the tripe Mick served and many fans voted with their feet as attendance dwindled to 15,000. Thank God those days are over.

You can tell he’s from Yorkshire….. You can’t tell him anything else!!!
He told the fans to leave, so 6,500 season ticket holders did just that.
No member of our current squad would come close to Ipswich if they had to play under them.

I think the McCarthy debate will continue. My problem with Mick is why, if he was so upset about not having a budget to speak of, he didn’t back out or just walk away instead of extending his stay. The longer it goes on, the worse it becomes. He was really satisfied with mediocrity and that’s probably why we ended up where we did.

Kieran McKenna sits top of League One having left Manchester United

Mick did a great job…. Let’s remember where we started when he took over and kept us in the Championship by just a shoelace. He has every right to mention the budget because I love McKenna and agree he did a great job, but would he have done it without the budget….

If he plays attractive football with the team he has, we will go to the conference.

Anyone who concludes otherwise is naive or worse. When he left, we were transported into the wilds of League One.

Thanks to the new owners and their budget as well as Kieran’s excellent coaching we are well on our way.

I thought time would dilute the memories of the end of the great Mick and we would conclude that it was a consequence of the Marcus Evans project, but no, people with no knowledge of football stone still gives his uneducated opinions.

Pitman, Waghorn, Garner, Lawrence, Fraser and of course Dids and a few others who can’t be bothered to name. Boring football and cup matches reduced our income and not taking responsibility for our actions. Being a 50+ Town fan was the worst time for me. Someone rightly said: forget it and of course he was right, but these are terrible and terrible times.Everyone keeps talking about the budget that McKenna has, currently we have the 17th highest wages and the 14th highest transfer spend in the Championship. When MM was here, there were clubs who did better than us with lower budgets, but please don’t let the truth get in the way!!
