With record-breaking free agency contracts about to be signed by baseball’s biggest star, Shohei Ohtani, the Toronto Blue Jays are among the front-runners to sign the two-way player. According to experts, there is much more to the business case for acquiring Ohtani than just baseball.

One of the final teams reportedly in the running to sign baseball’s superstar Shohei Ohtani is the Toronto Blue Jays. According to baseball insiders, the Japanese phenom will cost between $500 and $600 million to sign.

However, this goes beyond baseball for the team’s owner, Rogers Communications. Not just jerseys and Jays tickets, but also cellphones and advertisements, is what they want Ohtani to bring to Toronto.

“The halo effect for the Rogers corporation would be very, very real,” stated Adam Seaborn, Playmaker Capital’s head of partnerships and a sports media analyst.

Characterizing Ohtani’s level of fame can be challenging. He pitches and fills in as a designated hitter, making him perhaps the greatest two-way player in game history.

The Toronto Blue Jays are now a real contender to sign Japanese free agent sensation Shohei Ohtani, the hottest baseball player on the planet. Ohtani is in talks to leave the Los Angeles Angels after six seasons.

Fans travel from as far away as Japan to see him play because he has a massive global fan base. About fifty members of the Japanese media are authorized to cover Ohtani full-time.

According to a well-known Japanese economist’s study, Ohtani’s overall economic contribution to the Los Angeles Angels in just the 2022 season was estimated to be $337 million US.
