Tottenham lost 2-1 against West Ham on Thursday night (7 December), their fourth loss in their previous five Premier League games.
Spurs have led in each of their last five games—a first in Premier League history—but have lost all of them despite that streak.
Naturally, there were questions about whether Ange Postecoglou’s philosophy was to blame for the slump in form. Ian Wright believes that the players must follow the game plans.
The second goal’s creator, Destiny Udogie, didn’t exactly win over the legendary Arsenal player. He claims the youthful defender was “terrible” that evening against West Ham and that it was “poor play” on his part.
After the game, Wright discussed Premier League TV production, saying, “If you look at Udogie for instance.” That was just bad acting. A terrible performance. You are able to remove that from your play.
Although Udogie is a skilled defender, you would think that his back pass on the goal was awful. After Jarrod Bowen’s initial shot struck the woodwork, James Ward-Prowse made no mistake and almost scored the goal.
It’s too soon to criticize Ange Postecoglou’s strategies. Just a few weeks prior, Spurs were dominating the Premier League and leading the table. But they’ve had a slump in performance and are without several important players.
Wright is absolutely correct when he says that the players must understand their roles and follow the game plans. The players must ultimately put the system into practice, and it will likely take more time to witness the greatest performance from this group.
Postecoglou needs to make some slight adjustments to his approach, and although their strategy is encouraging to observe, they have also been incredibly naive.
