Panthers wide receiver Terrace Marshall discusses his “tough” third season while out of action.
Terrace Marshall has seen his head coach fired in the middle of the season for the second year in a row. However, unlike the previous season under interim head coach Steve Wilks, the 2021 second-round pick hasn’t seen an increase in playing time as a result of a temporary change at the top. For the last four weeks, Marshall, 23, has been a healthy scratch. Since Week 13, interim head coach Chris Tabor has led the last two games. He took over for former head coach Frank Reich.
Marshall, who requested a trade earlier in the season, has been practicing with the scout team and giving the starting defense alternative looks. However, he has been sitting on the bench without a jersey on Sundays while his offensive teammates have only scored 11 points a game on average over the previous four weeks.
Marshall declared on Wednesday, “I’m just going to work, getting better every day.” “In the end, I am aware of who I am. I will never allow anyone else to decide that. I decide that, so I just show up for work every day and improve. Be a pro, accomplish what is required of me, and do my best.
For two of the last five games of former head coach Matt Rhule’s tenure last season, Marshall was a healthy scratch. Marshall established himself as a mainstay of the offense after Wilks took over, hauling in 24 passes for 460 yards and a touchdown in the last 12 games. In his second NFL season, the former LSU playmaker averaged 17.5 yards per catch. But, Adam Thielen, DJ Chark, and second-round pick Jonathan Mingo quickly overshadowed Marshall during training camp at Wofford College this summer. Despite showing some chemistry during the offseason program, rookie starting quarterback Bryce Young rarely saw targets from Marshall when he ran plays with the second-team offense.
