Panthers place seasoned tight end Hayden Hurst on injured reserve due to concussion-related amnesia.

Only a few weeks after the veteran tight end’s father, Jerry Hurst, revealed on social media that his son had been diagnosed with post-traumatic amnesia as a result of a concussion he had on November 9 against the Chicago Bears, the Carolina Panthers have placed Hayden Hurst on injured reserve.

Hurst took to X, formerly known as Twitter, shortly after his father’s alarming post pleading for prayers for his son. He claimed to have had a “pretty nasty concussion” and to have lost consciousness for up to four hours following the game.

Hurst described it as a “scary situation,” but he clarified that it wouldn’t end his career. I’m hoping to make it back for the final few weeks of the season as I’m starting to play again this week!

Since then, Hurst has not played and has continued to follow the concussion protocol. He had been practicing sporadically.

With just 18 receptions for 184 yards and one touchdown in nine games, Hurst has been a disappointment since signing a three-year, $21.7 million contract with the Panthers last offseason.

Due to a calf injury, the Panthers also placed guard Justin McCray on injured reserve on Friday.

With a 1-12 record, the Panthers are out of the postseason picture. On Sunday, Carolina will host Atlanta (6-7).On Thursday, Nov. 9, 2023, in Chicago, during the second half of an NFL football game between the Carolina Panthers and the Chicago Bears, tight end Hayden Hurst (81), stands on the sidelines.
