Against Penn State, Michigan’s defense collapses in the second half.

PHILADELPHIA: The Michigan men’s basketball team entered the locker room with a 10-point lead as the first-half buzzer sounded, giving the impression that the Wolverines’ defense had finally found its groove.

It appeared that way, at least.

The biggest weakness Michigan has had this season has been its defense, or more precisely, its absence of it. Prior to the Wolverines’ three straight losses against Penn State on Sunday, the harm that can result was evident.

But even in what looked like an improved defense, Michigan made distinct blunders. Allowing wide open looks from three, failing to lock down the paint and succumbing to Penn State offensive rebounds demonstrated that. The Nittany Lions just didn’t capitalize, in the first half at least.

However, Michigan committed glaring errors even in what appeared to be an improved defense.
