The Boston Red Sox may trade one of their best pitchers in the near future, but they also need to add more pitching this offseason.
Currently projected to have the third lowest payroll in the American League East, Boston has plenty of money to spend. In addition, it is said that the Red Sox would prefer to reduce salaries than increase them.
Closer Kenley Jansen is one player who has recently been brought up in trade discussions as a result of this. He signed a free agent contract with Boston last offseason, and his 2024 salary is expected to be $16 million.
Despite having a strong season, Jansen is expendable due to his high salary and the possibility that Tanner Houck or Chris Martin could replace him in the closer position for Boston.
The Los Angeles Dodgers are one team that has been floated as a potential trade partner, as reported by Jon Heyman of the New York Post.
“Kenley Jansen, mentioned in the same report, is indeed available and wouldn’t look bad back in a Dodgers uniform,” Heyman stated. “Although Evan Phillips is exceptional, the MLB superteam wouldn’t suffer from additional assistance.
