Why This Offseason, Joe Mixon’s Future With The Cincinnati Bengals Will Be Determined Much Earlier

Joe Mixon, a running back for the Bengals, took a pay cut last summer and is back in Cincinnati for his seventh season.

At the end of the season, the 27-year-old had nine touchdowns and 1,034 rushing yards. In addition, he had three more touchdowns and 52 receptions for 376 yards.

How about next season

Although Mixon’s future was a hot topic of discussion for several months leading up to the 2023 season, a decision ought to be made this offseason much sooner.

On the fourth day of the new league year, March 16, the veteran is entitled to a $3 million roster bonus. He has to be on the roster for that bonus to be fully guaranteed.

Thus, prior to March 16, Duke Tobin, Mike Brown, Katie Blackburn, and the Bengals will need to decide on Mixon’s future. He will be a member of the team in 2024 if he is still on the roster in addition to receiving the bonus.

They will change course before awarding him the $3 million bonus if they so choose. It’s important to remember that, should he stay, Mixon’s cap hit in 2024 will be $8.9 million.

The Bengals must make a lot of choices. Mixon’s future is probably still up in the air, but there are a lot of things the front office will talk about in the coming months.
