The Titans interview Mike Kafka and Brian Callahan as they start their coaching search.

On Friday, the Tennessee Titans had their first virtual interviews with candidates for their head coaching position. The candidates were Mike Kafka of the New York Giants and Brian Callahan of the Cincinnati Bengals.

After six seasons, Mike Vrabel was let go by the Titans on Tuesday. Only six of Vrabel’s final 24 games were victories.

Both Callahan and Kafka were quarterbacks in college and have worked closely with two of the top passers in the NFL

With 14 years of NFL experience, Callahan has been the offensive coordinator for the Bengals since 2019. He is recognized for having contributed to Joe Burrow’s development.

He is the son of former Raiders coach Bill Callahan, and recent head coaching searches have frequently targeted him. Last year, he went through interviews with multiple teams before deciding to remain in Cincinnati.

After completing his studies at UCLA, Callahan joined the NFL in 2010 and worked as a coaching assistant for the Broncos. In 2011, he was promoted to offensive quality control coach, and in 2013, he became an offensive assistant. He coached quarterbacks for the Lions from 2016 to 2017 and the Raiders from 2018 to 2018, when he was hired by the Bengals.

Northwestern was Kafka’s playing and graduate assistant coaching alma mater. In 2017, he started working for Andy Reid as a quality control coach in Kansas City.
