The Memphis Tigers have a rare luxury chasing program history with all the comforts of home Friday against Iowa State in the Liberty Bowl.

The Cyclones (7-5) will work from Memphis’ usual sideline, pushing the Tigers to the visitors’ side. Memphis will get to use its own locker room.

At stake for Memphis (9-3) is posting just the fifth season in program history with at least 10 victories and fourth since 2014. The Tigers also can get some payback for 2017 when they lost this bowl to Iowa State by a single point despite being ranked.

In the Liberty Bowl game against Iowa State on Friday, the Memphis Tigers will have the unique luxury of pursuing program history while enjoying all the comforts of home.

Working from Memphis’ typical sideline, the Cyclones (7-5) will force the Tigers to the visiting side. Memphis will have access to a private changing area.

For Memphis (9-3), the goal is to record at least 10 wins for the fifth time in program history and the fourth time since 2014. In addition, the Tigers can exact some revenge for their 2017 bowl loss to Iowa State, who defeated them by one point even though they were ranked.

On Thursday, Tigers coach Ryan Silverfield stated that his team is aware of Memphis’ significance in this AutoZone-sponsored bowl as well as its history.

“National television and then also the opportunity to go down in history as one of the top five winningest teams in program history,” Silverfield stated. “Those are huge things that are at stake, and our guys will certainly come out swinging.”

In six attempts, Iowa State has only triumphed in one game in Tennessee—the 2017 Liberty Bowl.
