Fans of the Jacksonville Jaguars were taken aback and confused by what general manager Trent Baalke told them on Thursday about two important contract decisions that the team will have to make involving star pass rusher Josh Allen and quarterback Trevor Lawrence.
Allen “will be a Jaguar” for the 2024 season, according to Baalke and the Jaguars website. The Jaguars are not close to signing a multi-year contract extension with Allen, according to Baalke, who also raised the prospect of using the franchise tag to retain their standout outside linebacker. The Jaguars and Allen, according to Baalke, would need to determine a “good” number for everyone:
The negotiations will begin, according to Baalke. Josh wants to be here, I know that. We want him here, I’m sure. Is there a number we can agree upon that suits everyone? I appreciate that because it’s crucial. These guys have to be respected because they put themselves in this situation. They put forth a lot of effort in their work. They should be well compensated. It’s possible that their definition of “good” differs from ours.
