Dodgers strike once more, reaching a deal with a former Padres and Red Sox pitcher
The excitement surrounding the Los Angeles Dodgers’ offseason has been unparalleled. The Dodgers made another move late in MLB Free Agency, adding stars to an already strong core. With former Boston Red Sox and San Diego Padres pitcher Dinelson Lamet, LA is adding to its depth in the pitching staff.
Dinelson Lamet, a right-handed pitcher, has been invited to the MLB spring training by the Dodgers, via a minors deal, according to Jon Heyman. The veteran 31-year-old, who has played for the Padres, Colorado Rockies, and Red Sox, is looking for a fresh start.
Lamet made 17 major league appearances in 2023—16 with Colorado and one with Boston. In addition to throwing 32 strikeouts and averaging 2.35 WHIP, he had an 11.71 ERA and a W-L of 1-4. He may be able to secure a bigger role with Los Angeles if he performs well in spring training.
Lamet’s transfer follows one of LA’s most prosperous free agency runs. The signing of Nippon Professional Baseball star Yoshinobu Yamamoto and two-time AL MVP Shohei Ohtani has garnered the most attention from fans. The Dodgers’ offense and defense both benefit greatly from the addition of these stars.
