Among the 9,631 individuals present at the SJB Pavilion on Saturday, none possessed greater celebrity status than Morgan Freeman, an award-winning actor and renowned Ole Miss basketball enthusiast.
If there’s a big game in Oxford, chances are good that he’ll be sitting courtside wearing his Rebel gear. Given that Freeman is a resident of Mississippi and was not well-known outside of Ole Miss fandom and circles, many people were likely unaware of his connection to the program, but this past Saturday, many saw him because of an unusual encounter with an Auburn player.
Auburn’s star center This past Saturday, Johni Broome saw Morgan Freeman and was instantly enamored with him, wishing he had his original introduction back.
When play on Freeman’s end of Craddock Court stopped during that particular game, Tigers center Johni Broome was standing directly in front of him. Freeman tugged at the back of his No. 4 jersey in an attempt to get Broome’s attention, but Broome swatted the hand away from behind him. It turns out that, based on well-liked parts that Freeman has played throughout his film career, it was the man who many have dubbed the voice of “God” and the President of the United States.
