At the age of two, McCaffrey saw his father, Ed McCaffrey, and the Denver Broncos defeat the Atlanta Falcons 34-19 in January 1999 to win their second straight Super Bowl. The now-55-year-old tied for the team lead in targets (seven) and receptions (five) for a total of 72 yards at the end of the game.

The Hall of Fame quarterback’s final seasons, from 1995 to 1998, saw the senior McCaffrey as one of his top targets for John Elway. He finished his three best seasons in 1999 and 2000. With a career-high 10 touchdown catches in 1998, McCaffrey was selected to the Pro Bowl for the first time. In 1999, he completed his second consecutive 1,000-yard season. In 2000, he set career highs in targets (149), receptions (101), and receiving yards (1,317).

Ironically, Mike Shanahan, the head coach of the Broncos, guided the wideout during his whole Denver career (1995–2003). Kyle Shanahan, the head coach of San Francisco right now, is Shanahan’s son.
