Now that the regular season is over, the Georgia high school basketball region tournaments are about to begin.

There should be some exciting competition during this year’s class 2A region four tournaments because Thomson began the season 16-0, Butler is ranked among the top five teams in the state, and Westside is the two-time defending state champion.

The Butler Bulldogs, who came in just one game behind Westside and Thomson, are ranked as the third seed.

Butler won two of their three games against Westside this year and split the other two against Thomson.

In his first season as the Bulldogs’ head coach, Chaz Clark, has his team loaded with momentum heading into this week’s region tournament after two decisive victories against Thomson and Westside just last week.

When things are going well, like during that eleven-game winning streak, it can be difficult to maintain focus. Therefore, the Laney loss was significant. Not only that, but I was really proud of my guys for responding appropriately in the Westside game the following day, which gave me confidence as a coach and let me know that we were making progress. It would have been a lot simpler following Laney’s defeat to Tuck Tail.

The Bulldogs will play the Washington County Golden Hawks at Josey High School on Tuesday night at 8:30 in the first round of their region tournament.
