Jaguars Rookie Evaluation: 2023’s Anton Harrison’s Highlights
In the 2023 draft, the cmade the most selections of any team in franchise history—13 players. But the majority of these selections were made in the fifth and seventh rounds. In 2023, a few rookies displayed signs of promise, while others saw little action due to a variety of circumstances.
Harrison was without a doubt the Jaguars’ most outstanding rookie the previous campaign. Harrison is from Washington, D.C., and attended Archbishop Carroll High School, where he excelled in two sports. He turned down offers from Maryland to play basketball and football in favor of playing football at the University of Oklahoma. Harrison was selected by Oklahoma for the first team of the Big 12 before the Jaguars selected him with the 27th pick overall. Only one rookie Jaguar, the former Sooner, started every one of the team’s 17 games in 2023.
Harrison is strong enough to be a patient pass-blocker at 6 feet 5 inches and 315 pounds. He lets defenders approach him rather than lunging at them. Frequently, he keeps a firm grip while rolling his hips to stabilize them at the point of contact. Harrison rarely throws opponents off-balance, but his technique has shown to be useful.
