What Louisville Players and Kenny Payne Said Following Their 72-50 Loss Against Notre Dame

The men’s basketball team from Louisville lost 72-50 in their third straight blowout game against Notre Dame after struggling defensively once more at home.

Following the defeat, forward Brandon Huntley-Hatfield and head coach Kenny Payne had the following to say:

“I commend him for wanting to return and, for the most part, playing with the vigor and effort that we require from him. Seeing that was energizing. It was encouraging to watch him play that way, to fight and play with energy and occasionally shoot the ball with rhythm, because even when he did return and practice yesterday or the day before, he didn’t make contact.

“I believe we became comfortable. Before he exits the screen, I believe they move quite a bit. You never shoot a gap on a three-point shooter, as the saying goes. You are in constant communication with the three-point shooter. Every time, you can tell where he is. In other words, if there are two players and we’re in a scramble situation with a three-point shooter and a non-shooter, you can use your voice to say, “I’m going to help,” but in reality, you won’t. The best shooter will never be left on the floor. We repeatedly performed that. We encountered gaps. Bravo to him. He hit some hard shots. He hit a few solid shots. He occasionally made the wide-open shot in addition to some wide-open
