Former star of the Cincinnati Bengals wonders if the team needs Tee Higgins

Cris Collinsworth, a Sunday Night Football analyst and former wide receiver for the Cincinnati Bengals, has offered his opinion on the controversy involving current Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins.

Next week, Higgins was scheduled to become a free agent. But the Bengals gave their large pass-catcher a Franchise Tag.

Higgins was removed from the market by the Franchise Tag. In 2024–2025, he will be a player with the Bengals and make $21.8 million. Higgins and the Bengals still need to work out a long-term contract if they hope to remain together because the Franchise Tag is only good for one year.

The Bengals may move Higgins to another team, though, if they can’t agree on a new deal.

The combine last weekend provided evidence that there are several excellent wide receivers in the 2017 draft class. Is it possible for the Bengals to trade Higgins for choices, waive his $21.8 million salary, and select a player who is younger? Collinsworth believes that they might.

Collinsworth stated, “I look at this draft class of receivers; there are a lot of big wide receivers that can run,” on the Up & Adams programme.

“The question is, ‘Should I pay my other players and draft a young receiver or do I need a proven commodity like Tee Higgins?'” And I believe the latter to be the response.”

Now that Mike Evans has re-signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Higgins may become the target of clubs in need of a wide receiver. A number of organisations may contact the Bengals regarding possible trades for Higgins.

While it’s exciting for him to have him this year and it’s a nice little paycheck for him, Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow has made it clear that he wants to keep Higgins. He said as much to ESPN. Then, maybe, he brings another one here shortly.”
