Juwan Howard is expected to return to his position as head coach of Michigan basketball for the 2024–25 campaign, per a recent article.
The basketball season for Michigan in 2023–24 has been an absolute bust. It’s difficult to recall that the Wolverines were once 3-0. Since then, they have a 5-22 record and a 3-16 Big Ten record.

Updated odds of Michigan basketball head coach Juwan Howard getting fired

Despite having one game remaining in the regular season against Nebraska, Michigan basketball will be seeded 14th for the first time in programme history when they play in the Big Ten tournament.

Juwan Howard has undoubtedly been under fire since missing a significant portion of the season due to heart surgery. Last season, Michigan basketball’s run of NCAA tournament appearances ended, and this year, the team’s performance collapsed.

Not that it helped that Dug McDaniel was suspended for six road games in addition to injuries, but the Wolverines have now lost seven straight away from home by at least 20 points. They’re not even competitive right now.

But in 2020, the same may be said about Michigan football. Although many believed Jim Harbaugh should have been fired, Warde Manuel saw that as an outlier and decided to keep Jim. A national title resulted from that.

Juwan has made two trips to the Sweet 16 and won a Big Ten championship. He hasn’t been a complete failure either; with Michigan basketball, he has five NCAA tournament victories. Still, even if Juwan is kept, there needs to be some adjustment because the last two seasons have been unimpressive.

As of right now, Howard is “likely” returning, according to a source, according to Sam Webb of The Michigan Insider. On Wednesday, Indiana elected to retain its head coach. Juwan Howard appears to be returning to Michigan basketball, though this is not official yet.
