Josh Jacobs is moving to Green Bay from the Raiders.

Even though Tom Telesco, the new general manager of Las Vegas, stated during the recent NFL Combine that the team would “explore pretty hard” to acquire a contract extension with Jacobs, the development is not too shocking.

The general manager stated that it was critical to retain Jacobs as a member of the team that selected him with the No. 24 overall choice in the 2019 draft out of Alabama because “he is a Raider.” Telesco complimented Jacobs’ significance to the squad in both the running and passing game.

However, the Raiders ultimately decided that Jacobs’ price was too high.

Jacobs, 26, received the franchise tag from the Raiders last season following a 2022 campaign in which he set a league record with 1,653 running yards. Jacobs resisted until August, at which point a new one-year contract was reached.

After playing in 73 Raider games, Jacobs finishes third in Raider history in terms of total running yards, barely 5,545 yards shy of Pro Football Hall of Famer Marcus Allen (8,545) and Mark van Eeghen (5,907).

Despite having an unspectacular 3.5 yards per carry average and only 805 running yards, Jacobs was injured and missed the final four games. Also, Zamir White, his stand-in, performed admirably in Jacobs’ place

As of right now, White, who is starting his third season, seems to be in line to start for the Raiders as a running back in 2024. The Raiders may potentially add a running back via the draft or free agency. According to Telesco, he wants to play multiple running backs. He might try to catch Austin Ekeler. Telesco was with the Chargers alongside the free agent.
